One of our lovely trustees Fiona Stewart MBE, has taken on an epic challenge, walking 100km of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in 6 days. Fiona has been involved with the MPS society for over 25 years and was contacted by Christine Lavery who had money to set up a specialist clinic in Northern Ireland but had hit a brick wall.
Fiona says, "Together we hatched a cunning plan and the first Northern Ireland clinic was held in 1995 with Dr Ed Wraith coming over from Manchester. It was a game changer for our families. They could see a world expert on their own doorstep. I know that this improved their care and access to treatment. I was so privileged to be part of this . Many of you know I had to retire early because of metastatic breast cancer. When I decided that I would walk the Camino to recognise that I was 5 years out from my not great prognosis there was no other charity I would choose to raise money for. So 115 km done in 6 days and no blisters . Delighted to have raised money for, this great cause. I know what you guys do on the ground. You fund the amazing Alison Wilson who does so much for NI MPS patients and a whole lot of other stuff. Now off, for a well deserved glass of wine!"
